"Fear is my greatest weapon that I use with mankind".

When I listened to the 'devil' say this in the interview with Napoleon Hill in his book 'Outwitting the Devil', I had an aha moment…again!

Are you waiting for tomorrow to see if the fear that may be holding you back, getting in your way, or stopping you achieve what you dream of, will go away?

What is in the way is the way

Fear is a normal and healthy emotion, and all emotions need to be expressed to not be suppressed, this means that when we can acknowledge our fears, we can develop a healthier relationship with the fear that is holding us back. This is important because fear will not go away by itself, and the only way to minimise fear or get rid of it is to act and do the thing we need to realise our dreams and aspirations.

What is in the way is the way, so whatever that thing is that you may have fear around, is the thing you need to act on. Otherwise, you will be waiting a long time for the fear to go away…

This is because the more we can accept fear, feel it and do what we want to do anyway, the more the fear will seem less than what it currently is today. It’s also a great way to learn and grow.

Everything is a choice.

Here are 3 steps you can follow to develop a healthy relationship with fear:

1. Acknowledge the fear

Identifying and owning that you are feeling fear is the first step to awareness and creating change. Understand that it will always be there in some form so acknowledge it resourcefully knowing that everything is a choice. Many people suppress fear because they don’t know how to deal with fear and as a result can feel that fear is something they can’t do anything with and allow it to take over.

2. Accept that fear is a healthy and normal emotion

This is about validating and normalising the fear. We are conditioned to see fear as a negative emotion and to suppress it and avoid feeling it because it is uncomfortable. Ironically, by trying not to feel fear we end up feeling it more intensely and having more impact than it otherwise could. Accepting the fear is to accept that fear is normal and is there to help you break through barriers may be holding you back.

3. Feel the fear and act towards creating goals and achieving your aspirations

This is about setting goals and being able to take action to achieve your goals and aspirations regardless of feeling fear. The reality is that growth and progress require us to take new steps, get uncomfortable, and try new things - all of which often comes with feeling fear as its either new or unfamiliar. Focus on what you want to achieve, your goals and aspirations rather than the fear itself.

As Henry Ford said, ”One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his greatest surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn’t do”

Today is yesterday’s tomorrow

If you are waiting for tomorrow, then that is now today! If you are realising that you are in your own way, then you are in total control of getting out of your own way, and the first steps start today. Use these 3 steps to develop a different relationship with fear and do what you want to do anyway. You will discover that you can do what it was you were afraid of and as a result will achieve even more personal growth and progress towards the achievements of your goals in life and business.
